At the tender age of thirteen, Darcy Preyer begins to question her belief system and the conventional bible-believing adults who instilled it. Darcy's mother, Lillie Preyer, marries Wilder Coles, a saintly man who knows all about the bible but not much about himself. Trapped in an abusive home where she is silenced and neglected, Darcy's intuition of what is right and true is constantly challenged by her situation. She is thrust into hell on earth as she realizes the adults around her are blinded from the truth. Confused, Darcy retreats into a world where she is occupied by serious questions. Afraid of losing her inner voice, she embraces new ways of coping to avoid her contradictory reality. Will Darcy find the answers she is desperately searching for, and what will be her destiny? In Through Eyes That See you will accompany Darcy on her fascinating journey, with surprising and thought-provoking results. About the Author Nadyne T. Through Eyes That See Nadyne T Hicks 9781609769901 Books

THROUGH EYES THAT SEE could not be more aptly titled. This book is about a young girl's perception of the world, and how it changes, right before our eyes.

This is a book that deals with everything in our lives: the joy, the pain, and everything in-between. The author's voice is true and crisp, but she treats her story with a kind of elegant realism most new authors strive for, but never achieve. And while some characters turn out to be far more selfish and cruel than we could have ever imagined, and some selfless, she does not undercut them by portraying them as villains or heroes. Even when a character is at their worst, we understand why (or perhaps what drove them to that point). And it's the main characters indefatigable hope that carries us through the pages.

All the characters in this novel are real, and it's that treatment of life that makes this book so gripping and touching all at once. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is interested in life and all its ups and downs.

This is a must read for anyone! It's a beautifully written, poetic story that is so powerful and compelling I couldn't put it down. Told through the eyes of the young teen, Darcy, it reminds us of the unconditional love and wisdom of children and how their parents actions shape their thoughts and feelings. It's a true roller coaster ride of emotions. This is an amazing work for first time author, Nadyne Hicks and I can't wait for the next one.
Through Eyes That See is the kind of story that isn't told often enough. It touches your soul as you get to know Darcy and the challenges she faces at a young age. It is truly a testament to the underdog and all those people who go through life without the acknowledgement, recognition and appreciation that all people, especially the young, deserve. The ending took my breath away. A beautiful and emotionally compelling read that I would recommend to anyone who loves wonderfully crafted literature.
This little book will have you in tears! It's the quickest read ever! I finished it in one day - could not put it down! The characters pull you in. I think this is an important book for families to read together. I have a ten-year-old son and this book inspired me to be a better mother! And of the overall importance of really truly listening to our children! They have a voice AND Eyes that SEE-) Love the title! Love the story! I want more from this gifted writer!!!
Nadyne Hicks has truly given me eyes that see. Her characters touched the tender and sensitive parts of my heart that I'd long buried. I honestly believe that everyone can relate to this book on some level. Through Eyes That See stirred the wounded teenager within me, yet at the same time, opened my eyes to my shortcomings as a mother.

By the close of the book I was in tears. I kissed my daughter and apologized for the times I was too busy for her to be heard. May we listen to our children with our whole heart.

Thank you, Nadyne, and BRAVO!
I love this book. Great story. Every since I bought this I haven't been able to put it down. Good book! This book is a great book it really help one search there parenting as far as making time for your child not getting overloaded with your own personal life. I say again I highly recommend this book. It was great I couldn't put it down.
"Through Eyes That See" has forever changed me as a spiritual being and mother.

Darcy begins as a happy, optimistic, fearless child full of life who, over the years, transitions into a tired, defeated, artificial pubescent. Her relationship with God is conditioned by the religion she inherits from her elders. This gradually morphs into a distorted relationship of powerlessness. The little girl Darcy's experiences have reminded the little girl in me that it is always best to maintain my own personal spiritual connection with God and to respond from that place no matter how frightening the authoritarian figures appear to be.

As iterated by "Through Eyes That See," children are wise, intuitive beings whose opinions and ideas should be respected and given attention. Although I am of the same belief, as a mother who must provide, maintain, teach, nurture, etc., at times I have not listened to my children as thoroughly as I should. After meeting Darcy, I will be making more of a conscious effort to do so.

"Through Eyes That See" is a must-read for every human spirit-mother, father, child.
One of my favorite authors, Tapani Bagge has a quote I used to call my living epitaph "Everything that doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. And later on you can use it in some story."

"Some story" here is a thorough coming-of-age tale with such raw and esoteric emotional nuances that the protagonist can only be reveled as having deep tree-like roots in her sense of identity and compassionate lust for truth. Her complexity likens herself to her surroundings, and as she struggles to understand the shifting earth around her, her innocence serves as a mirror back to the reader; all of our inadequacies in understanding life, raison d'etre and matter of the heart (vs mind) are exposed, as we experience death (and the rebirth) with Darcy.

As an teaching artist, I have found that my favorite students are the ones whose parents talk to them like cognitive beings, treat them with adult-like respect and expose them to the rich, complex (sometimes painful, but always redemptive) world around them. If more children were seen AND heard, we'd have a considerably more evolved world.
